From Emmys to powerful auditions on America’s Got Talent, the Washington Capitals are blessed to have national talent as contributors to games.
The latest triumph comes from Capitals PA announcer Wes Johnson, who is the promotional voice of SpongeBob SquarePants Big Birthday Blowout – a TV movie celebrating the Nickelodeon series’ 20th anniversary.
Wes’s voice can be heard in the official trailers and promotional content for the special.
“My agent Vanessa Gilbert At SOLID Talent in LA got me the audition and they liked what they heard thankfully,” Wes said. “I’m grateful to them all. It makes the kid in me so happy. I raised my kids on SpongeBob and laughed as hard or harder than they did the entire way. It’s an honor to do these promos. I can’t wait to see the Birthday Bash special.”
The TV movie will air on Friday, July 12, at 7 pm on Nickelodeon. The plot is based around a surprise birthday party SpongeBob’s friends are throwing for him and their efforts to keep it secret. To do so, SpongeBob’s best friend, Patrick Star, sends the pair to the live-action world of the dry land above where they hang out with David Hasselhoff, who makes a guest appearance as himself.
Wes started his career as an actor and comedian and has worked in radio, TV, and film. The Arlington, Virginia native was the last PA Announcer for the Washington Bullets, the first PA Announcer for the Washington Wizards, announces for the WTT pro tennis team the Washington Kastles, and has been the arena voice of the Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals since 2000. He also currently serves as the voice of the NHRA.
Wes has become a popular voice in video games, most notably The Elder Scroll series, Fallout Series, and Star Trek: Legacy for Bethesda Softworks. He recently voiced an Mag’Har Orc Noble in World of Warcraft.
