Nashville needed cap space so on Saturday they dealt Norris Trophy-winning defenseman PK Subban and his $9 million cap hit to the New Jersey Devils for Steve Santini, Jeremy Davies, a second round pick (#34 overall) in this year’s draft, and a second round pick in 2020. No money was retained by Nashville.
Subban addressed the trade in a video posted to his social media accounts thanking Nashville. He also pointed out his total lack of Devils gear. He had a solution for that.
Subban had this to say.
All right. To everyone in Nashville, the city of Nashville, the state of Tennessee, everybody at the Nashville organization, everybody at the front office, the ownership down to GM, David Poile, the coaching staff led by Peter Laviolette, I just want to thank you all for your continued professionalism over the last few years, believing in me, and giving me an opportunity. We got close to our goal. Didn’t achieve what we wanted while I was there and that hurts. To all those Nashville fans out there, I just want to let you know in that locker room you guys have an amazing group of players led by Roman Josi. These guys are going to give everything they have every night. All my teammates, thank you for welcoming me with open arms, allowing me to come into that locker room, have a presence, and do my thing every day. Lastly, one of the biggest things in Nashville that I’m very passionate about, my blue line buddies program. To all the kids and officers wanted to participate every night and wanted to change something the city, the state, and ultimately our country better. Thank you for that, I appreciate it. You know what? I’m not going to be a stranger. I’ll be in and out of Nashville. I’ll be around and I’ll be thinking of you guys.
But now I’m moving forward. You guys know the deal. Now I’m a Devil. Let’s go. It’s on. To all those New Jersey Devils fans out there, let’s go. I don’t know. I’m with Red Bull, this is the closest [hat] – I don’t have any merch yet.
[Puts on Red Bull hat.]
To all the fans who go to the Rock every night to support the New Jersey Devils every night, can you smell what the rock is cooking?
[Picks up a water bottle with The Rock’s logo on it.]
I don’t know. I’ve got no merch. I’ve got no memorabilia. I’ve got nothing with New Jersey Devils on it. I just want to tell you guys, are you guys ready for the Subbanator, because I’m ready to go. Let’s go!
[Picks up dog and grins goofily]
Lucy, we’re going to Jersey. Let’s go!
An hour after posting the video, Subban updated his avatar on Twitter and Instagram to this.

Incredible. It’s Subban’s face photoshopped over a photo of a Devil’s Halloween costume.
The NHL later posted a photoshop of Subban in a Devils jersey, but I’m going to be honest, I much prefer the Halloween costume.
