Coverage of the Washington Capitals on The Athletic will look different starting this summer. On Thursday morning, Caps writer Chris Kuc announced he is joining the Chicago Blackhawks’ in-house digital content team, and former Caps beat writer Tarik El-Bashir announced he will return to the Caps beat.
El-Bashir previously covered the Caps for NBC Sports Washington and The Washington Post.

Kuc has long been in the Chicago orbit, covering the Hawks for the Tribune before joining the Athletic in September 2018. He’ll return to cover the team, except now in-house.
El-Bashir joined The Athletic around the same time but has mostly covered football over the last year, but in his tweet today he calls hockey his “first love.”
Some news: I'm shifting my focus at @TheAthleticDC from the Skins to the Caps. As you all know, hockey is my first love, so I couldn't be more excited about returning. Also, join me in wishing @ChrisKuc all the best in Chicago! I've got big shoes to fill. https://t.co/268B6ybBD9

El-Bashir says his Caps reporting will begin with the NHL Draft, next week.
