The Capitals defenseman wound up and fired from the point, beating Latvian goaltender Elvis Merzlikins. We didn’t have a speed gun in the arena, but it looks like he shot the puck approximately 600 MPH.
Ilya Kovalchuk and Sergei Plotnikov tallied the assist on the goals.
Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov each had two shots apiece but were held off the scoreboard.
Russia’s next game is Sunday against Switzerland.
