The Washington Capitals have clinched first place in the Metropolitan Division.
The Capitals claimed the division title with a 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens Thursday night. This is the fourth consecutive season that the Capitals have placed first in the division and the team’s ninth division title in the past 12 seasons.
Let’s celebrate!
The Capitals continue their streak of excellence. The team has 104 points with one more game left to play, and has the longest active streak of any NHL team of consecutive seasons with 100 points.
The Capitals win on Thursday night also helped decide the fates of several other teams fighting for the playoffs. The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Carolina Hurricanes both had stakes in the outcome of the Caps win.
