The Washington Capitals held their annual team picture day at MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Wednesday, though it contained very few hijinks compared to years past.
Those hijinks were saved for the locker room, where NBC4’s Sherree Burruss challenged Jakub Vrana, Matt Niskanen, Braden Holtby, and Lars Eller to pick out their teammates in their youth hockey team photographs.
For some of them, that was easier said than done.

Let’s take a closer look at each of the photographs, and how well each Cap was identified from their younger years.
Jakub ‘Baby Face’ Vrana

Vrana was by far the easiest of the three Capitals to identify in his youth hockey photograph, probably because he hasn’t changed all that much. Same baby face, same cheesy grin.

“You can see right away, that’s Jakub Vrana,” Eller said, immediately pointing to Vrana in the dead-center of the photo. “He still looks the same. The same baby face.”
Matt Niskanen

Identifying Niskanen proved a little tougher for the players guessing. But, with a few hints, they were eventually able to point him out as well. Though Eller remained unconvinced that Niskanen was even there.
“Matt Niskanen’s in this picture?” he said. “Huh.”

“That Nisky?” Vrana said, unable to hold back a laugh as he spotted him. “He didn’t have a tooth! No way.”
Lars Eller

Finally, it was time to spot the stealthiest baby Capital of all: Lars Eller. But what tripped them up on trying to pick Eller out of the lineup?
“I’m looking for Lars, there is five blonde guys,” Vrana said, unable to distinguish one Danish mop from the other.
“I have no idea,” Holtby said. “They all look the same. There’s no facial features. That’s a tough one.”
If you’re still struggling to spot Lars, we’re here to give you an assist.
