Braden Holtby’s pet tortoise is named Honey

The news about Braden Holtby’s pet preferences first broke in October 2018. The Stanley Cup Champion, Vezina-winner, guitar-playing crooner said that while his teammates were dog people, he chose to own a tortoise.

In a piece on “Capitals Quirkiness” for Washington Life Magazine, Catharine Trifiletti spoke with some of the players about hidden talents, fun facts, and favorite things.

Holtby’s fave was his pet Leopard tortoise. And it has a name: Honey.

Honey Holtby.

Now that we have one more piece of this three-dimensional puzzle, let’s delve deeper into the world of the Leopard tortoise.

Here’s what we know about the majestic creature that captured Holtby’s heart.

  • They can be REALLY big. Like, 88 pounds big. Like, Holtby-squishing big. BE CAREFUL HOLTZ.
  • They protect their nests, which Holtby can relate to, as his net is very similar to a nest! Except the tortoises want to keep eggs in, the Holtbeast wants to keep pucks out. Hopefully, if pets and their owners really do start to resemble each other the longer they live together, Holtby won’t pick up any bad habits from Honey.
  • They like to eat grass. Herbivorous. Nothing funny to say about that. It’s just. How leopard tortoises eat.

Though we have found the first answer to our questions, RMNB will continue its groundbreaking, hardnosed, frickin’-weird investigative journalism until all the questions have been answered about Braden Holtby’s tortoise.

  1. What is the tortoise’s name
  2. Does it go on walks
  3. Does the tortoise have its own fedora yet because if not we will make it one
  4. Can we get a livecam on this tortoise ASAP please

A fan has already created a Twitter account for Honey Holtby. Give them a follow, guys.

Update: Brandi Holtby has sent the first known photo of Honey Holtby. He has a brother!
