The Capitals’ AHL farm team Hershey Bears announced on Wednesday morning that they had signed forwards Steven Spinner and Dylan Steman to amateur tryout agreements. Both players have joined the team Wednesday for practice.
Spinner, 23, is a 2014 6th-round draft pick of the Capitals and just wrapped up his college playing career in the NCAA playing for the University of Nebraska-Omaha. In 136 games for the Mavericks, he posted 56 points, including 25 goals.
The Capitals have not yet signed Spinner to a contract and he is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
Before going to the NCAA, Spinner played for the Muskegon Lumberjacks and Omaha Lancers of the USHL, and was teammates with current Hershey Bears player Shane Gersich for one season in 2014-15 with the Lancers.
Steman, 24, is undrafted and has spent the last five seasons in the NCAA playing for Michigan Tech. He has 70 points (27 goals, 43 assists) in 154 games at Michigan Tech, including 13 points in 37 games this season. Steman was part of WCHA Tournament championships for Michigan Tech in 2017 and 2018. He also played in the USHL with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders for two seasons.
Two forwards join the Bears on ATO's. Steman is a center who has some jam to his game and was a big-time leader at Michigan Tech. Spinner was a 2014 #ALLCAPS draft pick who plays the wing and was former USHL teammates with Gersich. Both have joined team for practice today. #HBH https://t.co/uxZClL5Dbg
