The Washington Capitals could not get enough offense to take down the stingy Minnesota Wild and one bad turnover on defense sealed the deal in regulation. The 2-1 loss was quite the snooze fest, especially after the Caps recent games against the Lightning.
The Wild out-shot the Caps 27 to 22.
- The Caps didn’t seem like they woke up in this game until the third period and even then they didn’t create too much to trouble Devan Dubnyk. The boys have been excellent lately, so a stinker like this where they weren’t necessarily “bad” is allowed as long as it doesn’t continue.
- Brett Connolly stayed red hot, scoring his fourth goal in his last five games. Nick Jensen recorded the primary assist on the goal, giving him 15 assists this season which ties his career high.
- Evgeny Kuznetsov‘s numbers at five-on-five were…not good. 34.3-percent shot attempt percentage, 40-percent scoring chance for percentage, and a high danger chance differential of minus-4.
- Joining Kuzy in that miserableness was Matt Niskanen. At five-on-five, Nisky posted a 25.7-percent shot attempt percentage, a minus-12 scoring chance differential, and a minus-8 high danger chance differential.
- The Caps are done with the Western Conference in 2018-19 until a potential Stanley Cup Final.
