The Caps-Bolts rematch on Wednesday has been a busy affair. The second period saw six goals in 15 minutes, but after that is when stuff really went down.
As Cedric Paquette took Michal Kempny down to the ice, injuring the Capitals defenseman’s leg, Jakub Vrana got in his first career NHL fight with Yanni Gourde.
Kempny looks real bad.
The play begins with Kempny firing a shot on net. Paquette gives a rough run to Kempny. Kempny returns the favor with a crosscheck to the face and now it’s on.
Paquette’s teammate Adam Erne joins in, and that’s when Kempny is pulled down by the boards awkwardly. Kempny is hurt, but Paquette is throwing punches at him on the ice anyway.
That’s when Vrana loses it. He and Yanni Gourde have a spirited scrap as Vrana’s face and visor is bloodied.
VRANA WANTS A PIECE.
The refs break up the fight, and then we see the real damage: Kempny can’t put any weight on his leg. He’s helped to the locker room.
During the second intermission, the Capitals PR announced Kempny would not return.
#Caps Michal Kempny sustained a lower body injury and will not return.

Vrana’s only other known fight occurred during Capitals rookie camp in 2016.
