The intention to create the Laughlin Family Foundation and their initiative was first announced back in November 2018. It was revealed prior to the Capitals’ annual Hockey Fights Cancer night that Linda Laughlin, Craig Laughlin’s wife of 37 years, was fighting a rare form of endometrial cancer called uterine serous carcinoma. Linda was originally diagnosed during the Capitals’ historic Stanley Cup run.
“Unfortunately, the cancer that I have has no test, no screening, almost no symptoms. Most people don’t find out until it’s truly too late,” Linda said in a video leading up to the Caps Fight Cancer night. “I’ve been through six rounds of chemo. There’s no way to find out whether it worked or even helped. So, the research for this is virtually non-existent. My cancer’s rare, but half the cancers out there are considered rare and underfunded.”
So honored to have Linda Laughlin, wife of our very own @Laughlin18, drop the puck tonight for #HockeyFightsCancer night. For more on how you can help us with the fight, head to https://t.co/D5J3W1y0CK.#ALLCAPS #CapsFightCancer pic.twitter.com/O5rcM2lOUX

“I think that we have a lot of cancers that have great voices, and people made that happen. Susan G. Komen, Katie Couric,” Linda added. “So, if I can bring that opportunity to other people then all of it makes sense, all of a sudden. That’s why I’m here.”
Linda dropped the puck at the Capitals-Blue Jackets game on November 9th, and also sat down with close friend and fellow play-by-play analyst Joe Beninati for NBC Sports Washington to discuss the daunting diagnosis.
