The Washington Capitals continued their hot run of play by easily dispatching of the Philadelphia Flyers in the Flyers home barn. The Caps took down their Metro Division rivals 5-2 and put a huge dampener on Philly’s wild card playoff hopes.
The Caps out-shot the Flyers 32 to 24.

- The Caps have definitely stepped up their level of play at five-on-five. They are clicking very well right now as they took down all the fancy possession stats in this game that you can name and will look towards their match up with Tampa for a true test of the current mojo.
- Huge game from Brett Connolly as he scored his 18th and 19th goals of the season and now sits one point away from his first career 40-point season after his three point effort. He might be playing himself off the Caps in the coming seasons salary wise, but hey lets not worry about that right now.
- Connolly’s linemate, Lars Eller also got on the board with his 11th of the season. That goal gives him three in his last four games. That third line featuring Connolly, Eller, and Carl Hagelin was clicking on all cylinders yet again. When Eller was on the ice at five-on-five, the Caps got 77.3-percent of the shot attempts, 88.9-percent of the scoring chances, and had a plus-four high danger chance differential (the Flyers had zero). They also were on the ice for three Caps goals and no Flyers goals.
The Capitals improve to 15-6-2 against the Metropolitan Division this year, the third-most points against the division this year, one point behind the Islanders, who have played in two more games against the Metropolitan Division this year.

- Tom Wilson struck for his 20th of the season, the first time Big Willy has reached that round number total in his career. Wilson hit the 20 mark in only his 52nd game this season.
- With an assist on Evgeny Kuznetsov‘s empty net goal, Alex Ovechkin tallied his 1,201st career point. That point moves him past former Cap, Dino Ciccarelli for sole possession of 48th all time on the NHL’s point list.
- Wouldn’t it be awesome if the Caps beat the Ning at their barn on Saturday?
