The Hershey Bears beat the Hartford Wolf Pack on Sunday, and the undisputed star of the game was Devante Smith-Pelly.
Not only did he score his first AHL goal since clearing waivers in February, he added another two for a full-on hat-trick.
Riley Barber and Garrett Pilon contributed the other two goals, powering the team to a 5-3 win. Nathan Walker had three apples, assisting on Pilon’s goal and two of DSP’s.
Goal 1
Smith-Pelly’s first goal came on a deflection off an Aaron Ness shot in front of the net. The goal tied the game 1-1 in the first period.
DSP has his first AHL goal since March 29, 2014, and it came on this perfect deflection at the net front! #HBH pic.twitter.com/mjUfytcgs6

Goal 2
After some fancy passing play in the Hartford end, DSP scored on a one-timer from the high slot with assists by Walker and Megna. The goal gave the Bears a 3-2 lead early in the third period.

Goal 3
DSP’s hat trick goal came with 2:31 remaining in the third period to seal the victory. Nathan Walker had a speedy breakaway and scoring chance and DSP was in just the right place to clean up the rebound. The goal made it 5-3, which would end up as the final score.

DSP’s hat trick continues the forward’s strong play of late with the Bears. He has a three-game point-scoring streak, including three goals and three assists.
The Capitals were open to the forward returning for the team’s playoff run in DC if he re-found his game with the Bears.
“He has to get his game back to where it was at last year in playoff time, and he’s someone who’s going to have to find that down in Hershey,” Capitals head coach Todd Reirden said.
“I think he didn’t have the best training camp, didn’t start off right,” Brian MacLellan said. “Maybe expectations were that he was going to pick up where he left off in the playoffs and he struggled getting back to that level. Doesn’t mean we can’t bring him back up here at the end.”
We can tack this on to the best moments of DSP as a Washington Capital as an honorable mention, right?
