NWHL goaltender volunteers to wear mask featuring Burger King’s face so fans get free Whoppers

NWHL goaltender Shannon Szabados is one of the most accomplished goalies of all time. She was the first woman to play professionally in the Western Hockey League, Alberta Junior Hockey League, and Southern Professional Hockey League. She’s won two Olympic gold medals and a silver medal representing Canada.

But on Saturday, she earned a new title: Queen.

During Sunday’s game, she’ll rock this Burger King sponsored bucket for their #queenagolie campaign.

Let’s back up to where this all started. On February 27, Burger King announced their #kingagoalie campaign, where if a team got their goalie to wear this sponsored helmet, the whole crowd would get free Whoppers.

Szabados threw her name into the ring, calling herself a “goalie of the people.”

Burger King agreed, so fans who attend the NWHL game between the Buffalo Beauts and the Metropolitan Riveters, will get a free Whopper. Burger King also changed their official hashtag in Szabados’ honor.

You can watch the Beauts play the Riveters on the NWHL’s YouTube channel to see Szabados’ new bucket at 3 pm.
