Ovi is king: numbers for the morning after

A night after an embarrassing defeat to the Anaheim Ducks, the Washington Capitals bounced back and hung on to beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-2.

The Kings out-shot the Caps 28 to 21.

  • Alex Ovechkin is on pace to score 57 goals at the age of 33. He scored his 41st and 42nd of the season on Monday night, giving him goals in three straight games and 13 power play goals overall. Dude won the game.
  • On Ovi’s first goal of the evening, John Carlson recorded the 300th assist of his career. Carlson is only the third defensemen in franchise history to reach that total with the club, the first two being Calle Johansson (361) and Scott Stevens (331).
  • Monday night was the first time the Caps have scored multiple power play goals in one game this season since December 11 against the Detroit Red Wings. That is a little nuts to me.

  • This was the first Capitals victory in Los Angeles since December 14, 2005. The game also took place on the 14-year anniversary of the Peter Bondra for Brooks Laich trade that the Capitals and Ottawa Senators made.
  • This game ended with a grand total of seven high danger chances at five-on-five. The Caps portion of those seven came from Travis Boyd and Chandler Stephenson who both played under ten minutes at five-on-five. I don’t remember either of those chances.
  • Good news, the Caps played a decently even game on the road. Bad news, the Los Angeles Kings are really bad. You do not want to be “even” with really bad.
