While the Washington Capitals enjoyed New Year’s Day off, NBC Sports Washington Capitals play-by-play announcer Joe Beninati was back in action at the 2019 Winter Classic.
This will be our point of view for the Winter Classic today at Notre Dame. @EJHradek_NHL and I have the call on the world feed for NHL International at 1 pm Eastern. The "house that Rockne built" is filling up nicely to see the Bruins and Blackhawks. #WinterClassic pic.twitter.com/cGEd8A01no

Joe B. called the game alongside NHL Network’s E.J. Hradek for the international broadcast. He must have felt a sense of déjà vu in the first period, as Bruins forward David Pastrnak did Evgeny Kuznetsov’s bird walk celly.
We’re glad to see Joe B. getting a little more love from NHL fans worldwide.
Wait!!! @JoeBpXp is calling the Winter Classic? What a fantastic surprise 👍🏻

Joe B. is no stranger to getting love outside of the Capitals market. For six seasons, he called nationally telecast NHL games for Versus. Prior to joining NBC Sports, he also provided radio and TV play-by-play commentary for the Bruins AHL teams, the Maine Mariners and the Providence Bruins.
