So we’re all in that shapeless, languid time between Christmas and the new year, but not for long. The penultimate Caps game of 2018 is tonight as the Caps visit the Ottawa Senators, who are happy to announce they are only the third most dysfunctional team in the league this week, thank you very much to Philly and Dallas.
Attune your CRT television to NBCSWA at 7 PM or just point your new smartphone to this here streaming link. Chris will deliver your recap, and Ian has the night off, so expect some hi-jinx.

I’d just like to draw your attention to dot esports’ interview with the great Jen Neale. You might remember Jen from her excellent work at Puck Daddy, but now she’s running PR for my favorite Overwatch League team, the Los Angeles Valiant. The Valiant and their parent company Immortals are a wonderful organization, and Jen’s a crucial part of it. In the interview, Jen discusses Valiant’s inclusivity initiative:
It’s about saying, “You’re welcome here. We don’t care who you are, who you love. We want you here. We want you to be a part of us, because it’s you and your perspective makes us better.”
Exactly. Wings out.
Storylines
- psst… Ovi hasn’t scored in four games.
- Matt Niskanen skated this morning but is not expected to play tonight. His status is day-to-day, so I guess no broken bones. Yay?
- Devante Smith-Pelly is a treasure. Best story of the week.
- WJCs are happening now in case you need some Alex^2 action.
- Ian vs the ice resurfacer
- Alex Chiasson got hurt in Edmonton the other night. I haven’t checked recently, so let’s just assume he’s got 68 goals on the season so far. That sounds right.
- Claude Giroux has filed a goal-of-the-year candidate.
- Grab a bag of popcorn and delight in the anguish of the Dallas Stars. Mmmm yummy.
