Andre Burakovsky sat out his third-straight game as a healthy scratch Saturday against the Buffalo Sabres. The struggling forward may soon be on his way out of town.
According to Hockey Night In Canada’s Chris Johnston, Burakovsky has fallen out of favor in Washington and his name has been floated on the trade market.
The report happened during HNIC’s Saturday Headlines feature.
“And with Wednesday’s Holiday Trade Freeze coming into effect, another name that has been out there has been Andre Burakovsky — the talented Washington Capitals winger who has fallen a little bit out of favor, had some trouble with ice time,” Johnston said. “Tonight he’s sitting out his third-straight game as a healthy scratch. His name has been out there on the trade market and the rumor mill. And one of the teams, guys, that I believe have inquired about him is the Vancouver Canucks.”
“I think one of the things though about Washington is that they view him as a guy who gets good numbers with limited power-play time and the Capitals want to repeat,” Elliotte Friedman added. “I don’t think they’re interested in a futures deal. If they trade Burakovsky, they want someone now.”
A source confirmed the rumors Saturday night to RMNB, saying “it’s a thing.” A different source first broached the subject to RMNB through back channels on Wednesday, specifically mentioning the Vancouver Canucks as a possible trade destination. RMNB did not report the news because we could not independently verify the information.
Burakovsky is a restricted free agent after this season. He has eight points in 29 games.
