Alex Ovechkin scored a goal and the shootout game-winner during the Capitals’ thrilling 4-3 victory Saturday against the Sabres.
The Russian machine is on an absurd six-game goal-scoring streak and a 14-game point-scoring streak.
But if you think Ovechkin was happy with his performance, you’d be wrong.
“I had pretty good chances, today wasn’t my day,” Ovechkin said. “You can’t score every night.”
But, uh, Ovi, you totally did!
Ovechkin went five-hole in the shootout to beat Carter Hutton.
13:46 into the second period, Ovechkin rifled a slap shot past Hutton for his 29th goal of the season — tops in the NHL.
During the first intermission, Brett Connolly was asked about Ovechkin. He relayed that it was “insane how hungry he is to score goals.”

At the end of the game, Ovechkin was Al Koken’s interview guest. Koken set up an easy answer. The Capitals have gone to overtime in back to back nights. How much gas did Ovechkin have left in the tank.
Ovi responded a lot.
