Scratch that. Alex Ovechkin is now on pace for 74 goals this season.
After scoring a hat trick against the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night, The Great 8 has followed that performance up with a hat trick against the Carolina Hurricanes.
This is insane. Alex Ovechkin has back-to-back hat tricks for a second consecutive season. r u srs bro?
Ovechkin’s hat-trick goal came from the Ovi Spot on the power-play.
He was very excited.
Ovi’s 22nd hat trick now ties him for 11th all-time with Teemu Selanne.
Alex Ovechkin also has moved up the all-time hat tricks list, recording the 22nd of his career to tie Teemu Selanne for 11th place: https://t.co/EQtnZlThC5 #NHLStats

Here were his other two goals on the evening.
Ovechkin had a goal in six consecutive periods of play until that streak ended later in overtime.
Last season to start the team’s Stanley Cup year, Ovechkin scored seven goals in the team’s first two games of the regular season, including back-to-back hat tricks against Ottawa (3) and Montreal (4).
This year, Ovi just hoped the Caps would “not suck back-to-back” after winning their first Stanley Cup.
During his 13-game point-scoring streak, Ovechkin has 16 goals. In 32 games this season, Ovi has lit the lamp 28 times. He has a career 635 goals.
The Caps would go on to win 6-5 in the shootout.
