Brett Connolly now has points in four-straight games after scoring via The Kuzy Move.
Using his filthy mitts, Connolly dangled former Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky out of position for the tuck-in goal.
The tally gave the Caps a 1-0 lead 1:42 into the game. The Caps would take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.John Tortorella would pull Bobrovsky to jumpstart his team in the second period.
The play starts with Connolly coming down the wing with Jakub Vrana on a two-on-one break. Blue Jackets defenseman Scott Harrington dives, taking away Connolly’s option to pass.
So the former sixth overall pick cradles the puck as if he’ll shoot, before curling around Bobrovsky and sliding the puck into the back of the net.
Wow.
Here’s another look.
Sensational work by the NBC Sports Washington camera crew here.
“[Bobrovsky] kind of came out at me and cut the angle down,” Connolly said during a first intermission interview with Craig Laughlin. “Just tried to fake him and get him down. Luckily I put it in the open space and the D went in there. It was good to see that one go in.
“I’m just having fun out there playing,” Connolly added in a dry, monotone voice. “It’s nice to have regular shifts this year. Todd’s been really good with that with me. Just gaining more confidence every night. It’s been a lot of fun this year.”
The goal was reminiscent of Evgeny Kuznetsov’s goal against the Anaheim Ducks, Sunday, where the Russian center somehow scored shortside on Ryan Miller.
Connolly is currently tied for fifth in points (18) on the Capitals with Jakub Vrana.
Entering this game, an since joining the Capitals in the 2016-17 season, Brett Connolly is the only player in the NHL that has accumulated at least 67 points (34g, 33a) during that span and has averaged less than 13 minutes a game (Connolly: 11:50 TOI per game).
