Wayne Rooney meets Alex Ovechkin, plays hockey with son in Capitals locker room

Soccer superstar Wayne Rooney went to his first hockey game Friday night at Capital One Arena.

Rooney sat on the glass with his children as the Capitals defeated the New Jersey Devils 6-3, winning their seventh straight game.

After the Capitals left the ice, Rooney and his family were ushered down to the team’s locker room, where the DC United attacker met Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov.

“It’s been good,” Rooney says of his time in Washington while talking to Ovechkin who is draped in red towels.

As the two take a photo together, Kuznetsov, like a giddy fan, says in a geeky voice, “May I have one too please?”

Rooney obliged as a gathering crowd laughed in response.

Kuznetsov and Rooney chatted.

Tom Wilson later came to say hello too.

One of Rooney’s young sons was captured playing hockey too.

A nice night to conclude his first NHL game.
