Don Cherry loves his good ol’ Toronto boys, but he had some choice words for Tom Wilson on the Hockey Night Is Canada telecast.
During the latest edition of Coach’s Corner, Cherry said that Wilson’s hit on Brett Seney was semi-stupid and implied it was intentional.
“I love your coach going on saying you shouldn’t get suspended,” Cherry said. “But you know, and I know.”
Cherry went on to say that if Wilson wasn’t already watched like a hawk by NHL officials now, he will be even more so in the future, perhaps as a makeup for this hit.
“Don’t do it anymore because they’re just waiting for you to do something and you’re going to get more,” Cherry said.

Ron MacLean: Tom Wilson, Don. Last night and everywhere, for about 24 hours, I can’t believe it happened again.
Don Cherry: I don’t like to do this. There’s the hit. You know, I’m going to tell you, Tom. I’m always in your corner. I really am. When you got suspended, I was with the Sheriff (unintelligible).
I love your coach going on saying you shouldn’t get suspended. But you know, and I know. But we won’t go any further. Sheriff, he didn’t do anything. He didn’t do anything.
Let me tell you something. You’ve put yourself in a spot now. If you do that semi-stupid-thing again, like that, out of nowhere you hit that guy like that… I’m not going any further. Don’t! They’re just waiting for you for the next one. I’m not saying stop hitting. You’ve got to keep hitting.
Ron MacLean: Ryan Reaves caught Edler. And a little bit like Steckel right on Sidney Crosby. You don’t give him the benefit of the doubt?
Don Cherry: How about Orpik? Same thing. How could you give it to him?
He knows. And I know. You can’t fool me. You can fool those other guys. Don’t do it anymore because they’re just waiting for you to do something and you’re going to get more. He’s one of my favorites AS YOU KNOW.
Here are the three incidents MacLean and Cherry put in the same ballpark as Wilson’s hit.
Ryan Reaves on Alex Edler
David Steckel on Sidney Crosby
Brooks Orpik on Olli Maatta
