Ron MacLean announces the end of Coach’s Corner and discusses Don Cherry’s firing

Don Cherry was fired this week following his troubling anti-immigrant comments. This Saturday night, Cherry’s former co-host Ron MacLean addressed the event.

MacLean’s comments, apparently unscripted, are personal, not political. He discusses his friendship with Cherry and his disappointment in his own initial reaction to Cherry’s remarks. He closes the segment with a loving tribute to Cherry — and a sideways announcement that Coach’s Corner is now over.

Don Cherry calls Tom Wilson’s hit ‘semi-stupid’ on Hockey Night in Canada: ‘You’ve put yourself in a spot now’

Don Cherry loves his good ol’ Toronto boys, but he had some choice words for Tom Wilson on the Hockey Night Is Canada telecast.

During the latest edition of Coach’s Corner, Cherry said that Wilson’s hit on Brett Seney was semi-stupid and implied it was intentional.

“I love your coach going on saying you shouldn’t get suspended,” Cherry said. “But you know, and I know.”

Cherry went on to say that if Wilson wasn’t already watched like a hawk by NHL officials now, he will be even more so in the future, perhaps as a makeup for this hit.

“Don’t do it anymore because they’re just waiting for you to do something and you’re going to get more,” Cherry said.

Don Cherry Calls Tom Wilson “One of My Favorites,” Impressed by Karl Alzner’s Salute to John Erskine

Around the same time I posted my article about Karl Alzner wigging out on the Caps bench after John Erskine‘s knockout punch of Colton Orr, Hockey Night in Canada aired another episode of Coach’s Corner. Don Cherry also took note of Karl’s enthusiasm.

In the segment, Grapes saluted good ol’ Canadian boy Tom Wilson before giving a special shout-out to Alzner.

You’ll notice this during the video: Don really likes fights. Like really, really. And he’s on a warpath to keep fighting in hockey.
