More good sportsmanship: Alex Ovechkin apologizes to Justin Abdelkader after accidental high stick

Less than a week after Alex Ovechkin high-fived Carey Price to congratulate him on a brilliant save, Ovi has shown his good sportsmanship again.

Twenty seconds into the third period of Friday’s game, Ovechkin caught Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader in the face with his stick.

The Capitals’ captain apologized and stayed with Abdelkader until he was on his feet and moving.

The pair of number-8 left wingers were going after the puck, and in the confusion, Ovechkin’s stick came up high and caught Abdelkader below his visor.

Luckily, Abdelkader did not seem to be seriously hurt. Ovechkin rightfully spent two minutes in the sin bin, but the Caps’ penalty kill only allowed two shots.

Is it too early to nominate Ovi for the Lady Byng?
