Good sportsmanship: Alex Ovechkin high-fives Carey Price after being robbed of hat trick

With three seconds left and the game tied 4-4, Alex Ovechkin had an opportunity to ice the Habs in dramatic fashion. After receiving a perfect pass from Tom Wilson, Ovechkin attempted a one-timer from his office.

A flailing Carey Price made an incredible, diving save.

But it was what happened afterward that was even more incredible. In a show of good sportsmanship, Ovechkin clapped for Price and gave the former Hart Trophy winner a high five.

“It was a beautiful save,” Ovechkin said after the game. “Price was unstoppable. He was very good tonight.

“It was a pretty cool moment,” Ovechkin continued. “It was a pretty beautiful save. Fans was cheering for him, I was cheering for him same.”

On the stop of Ovi’s one-timer, Price actually deflected the puck away with his stick, which was more lucky than anything.

Regardless, Ovechkin was amazed.

Making an O face, the Russian machine clapped and high-fived the goalie as he skated away.

This is what should happen when two legends play hockey against each other.

“I think he’s mentally very strong,” Ovechkin said in further praise of Price. “It doesn’t matter give up one goal, two goals, he’s going to play the same way. Any good goalie, they always mentally very strong. Same with Holts.”
