Caps fan and global explorer Sampson Coe has gone to greater lengths to display his fannish passion that anyone has before: all the way to Antarctica.
Sampson posted a photo on his Facebook page of himself standing on Antarctic ice in front of a group of penguins. The caption reads “Travelled all the way to Antarctica just to remind the penguins in person that we got the cup!” A worthy endeavor indeed.
Sampson’s photo, taken by his wife Lorelei, a fellow traveler and Caps fan, has gone a bit viral.
I reached out to Sampson and he told me more about his travels.
Took that photo last week on the Antarctic Peninsula. Been planning something along those lines since we booked the trip last year (well before the boys lifted Lord Stanley).
Currently on a one year sabbatical, the wife and I are planning on hitting every continent within 365 days.
Had to pack light given the amount of ground we’re covering (one backpack each) so I only have a few t shirts in the rotation. I made damn sure that the Caps and Nats were represented.
As for the photo itself, a friend of mine reached out yesterday and informed me that she had posted it on the Caps reddit and it got a bunch of reactions right away. I’m really enjoying reading everyone’s comments and am glad that a lot of people are getting a kick out of it.
Elite Capitals fan Lindsey recommends that our new Arctic Royalty should never have to buy a beer for himself at Capital One Arena again.
For real though, if anyone finds out who he actually is he shouldn’t have to pay for beer at Cap One ever again

The man unzipped his coat in temperatures that he describes as “a sultry -5 degrees Celsius” in order to burn the Penguins. Free drinks seem like the least we can do.
