Brooks Orpik won’t play against Stars, will miss second straight game with lower-body injury

Veteran defenseman Brooks Orpik has been day-to-day for almost a week. He missed pratices and the Thursday night game against Montreal with a lower-body injury. Today, head coach Todd Reirden said Orpik won’t be in the lineup Saturday against the Dallas Stars either.

The last time Orpik played was in the 5-4 shootout win against the Calgary Flames. He also missed a skate during the first week of the season for a “maintenance day.”

Breaking down the Capitals’ defensive play 12 games into the season Orpik’s played well while paired with Christian Djoos early in the season. Madison Bowey and Djoos will man the third pairing until Orpik returns.
