Former Capitals forward Alex Chiasson scored two highlight-reel goals for the Edmonton Oilers Tuesday night, but it was Sidney Crosby’s game-winning overtime goal that went viral.
Crosby deked past two Oilers defenders before backhanding the puck past Cam Talbot top shelf. The goal was Crosby’s second tally of the night and earned praise from awed players leaguewide. Well, everyone that is, except for Alex Ovechkin.
“I just saw two highlight-reel goals from Chaser,” Ovechkin said to reporters. “I was very happy for him.”
Did you see Sid’s goal?
“No,” Ovi replied.
The reporter then asked Ovechkin what he thought of Chiasson’s first goal.
“Pretty sick,” he replied.
A nearby Capitals teammate then guffawed, causing a deadpanning Ovechkin to break into laughter himself.
Chiasson and Ovechkin were good friends during their time in Washington (more on that later). Ovi once even tried to prank Chiasson on the bench during a game.
The Capitals will play the Oilers on Thursday night. Ovechkin and Chiasson will likely be reunited when the latter is presented with his championship ring.
