The beer your favorite Capital chooses to drink

On Sunday, the Capitals hosted their annual Casino Night at the MGM National Harbor, raising a lot of money for charity. The Stanley Cup was there as a surprise guest, but so were a wide variety of beers.

While the Capitals do a lot of things together as a team (such as opening their championship ring boxes together), each player has a unique personality of their own. And their beer (or wine) choice gives us even more insight.

I documented what most players drank. Some of the players drink things you would expect (Ovi, Bud Light). Others, like Braden Holtby, choose their beers like they choose their wardrobe: exacting.

Alex Ovechkin – Bud Light

Of course.

Andre Burakovsky – Bud Light

Andre, you’re better than this.

Braden Holtby – Stone Delicious IPA

Holtby showed up with a unique choice. I don’t even remember seeing Stone IPA as an offering. Did he bring his own beer? Stone Brewing is located in Escondido, California with their Delicious IPA being described as a citrusy India pale ale with Lemondrop & El Dorado hops.

Brett Connolly – Corona

Ooh, a Corona WITHOUT a lime. Bold.

Brooks Orpik – Red wine

Staying with his #brand.

Devante Smith-Pelly – Unknown beer in a glass

Classy.

Dmitrij Jaskin – Blue Moon

This is Ian’s idea of craft beer.

Dmitry Orlov – Heineken

Snow

I’ve never had a Heineken but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t like it so it’s a nope from me.

Evgeny Kuznetsov – Unknown beer in a glass

How … enigmatic?

Jakub Vrana – Bud Light

At least he tried to hide it with a napkin.

John Carlson Part 1 – Heineken

Seems to like the color green.

John Carlson Part 2 – Goose Island IPA

Respectable.

Lars Eller – Red wine

Snow

Didn’t expect anything less.

Madison Bowey – Goose Island IPA

Strong move.

Matt Niskanen – Bud Light

Forgiven after that OT goal.

Michal Kempny – Heineken

Snow

Skeptical since “hiney” is in the name.

Nathan Walker – Corona

Snow
Mountains

Corona is the most popular imported beer in Australia.

Nicklas Backstrom – Heineken

Fun fact: International beers are sold in two versions in Sweden – the normal product marketed as a starköl and a watered-down version as a folköl.

Tom Wilson – Coors Light

Really?

Travis Boyd – Bud Light

Gross.
