Alex Ovechkin scores twice in Capitals 5-4 (OT) loss to Carolina

Sebastian Aho scored 19 seconds into overtime to give the Carolina Hurricanes a 5-4 victory at Capital One Arena, Friday night. The undefeated Hurricanes improved to 5-0 in the preseason while the defending champion Capitals fell to 1–3-2.

The Caps lone bright spot on the evening was Alex Ovechkin who scored twice, giving the 2018 playoff MVP three goals in three preseason games.

Goal 1

Ovechkin started the scoring 8:01 into the first period. After taking a pass from John Carlson on the power play, the Russian machine sent a slap pass to Nicklas Backstrom hanging out near the crease. Except, the puck never made it to its intended target. Instead Canes defenseman Jaccob Slavin deflected the puck past Petr Mrazek into the back of the net.

Goal 2

Ovi would later tie the game 3-3 with a dirty goal in the second period. Utilizing a set play, Evgeny Kuznetsov found Tom Wilson driving down the middle of the ice. Wilson hurled a wrist shot low and towards the far corner of the net. Ovechkin crashed the crease and buried the rebound.

And that, kids, is very good hockey.

During the preseason, Ovechkin now has five points in three games including nine shots.

I think this Ovenchicken guy might make the team. 🤔
