Monday afternoon, Alex Ovechkin announced via his Instagram account that he will be bringing the Stanley Cup to Moscow on July 7.
Ovechkin will let fans take pictures with the championship trophy at a World Cup fanfest event at Vorobyovy Gory in Sparrow Hills. The landmark is one of the highest points in Moscow and offers a panoramic view of the city.
“Dear friends, the Stanley Cup will be presented for you in Moscow. On July 7 from 1 till 4pm, I will wait for you in the Fan Fest on the Vorobyovy Gory,” Ovechkin wrote on Instagram. “See you soon! ❤️😀”

At 4pm, Russia plays Croatia in the quarterfinals of the World Cup, but Ovi is unlikely to take the Cup there. The game will be played at Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi, over two hours away.
It’s been previously reported that Ovechkin will share the Stanley Cup at Moscow Dynamo’s headquarters in Novogorsk. Ovi played with Dynamo before being drafted by the Capitals.
“Alexander already said that he would like to bring [the Cup] for two or three hours to team headquarters in Novogorsk, to show it to the kids from our [hockey] school,” Anatoly Kharchuk, Dynamo Moscow’s general manager, told TASS’s Rustam Sharafutdinov on Tuesday. Ovi will also travel with the Conn Smythe trophy.
During breakdown day, Ovechkin spoke more about his plans.
I want to bring the Stanley Cup to my house, to my family back home to share,” Ovechkin said. “My grandma, she will touch it. She will kiss it. It’s something special. You never thought how cool it is.”
