Former Washington Capitals head coach Barry Trotz resigned Monday. Nearly three days later, he’s found a new team and he will be staying in the Metropolitan Division.
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Trotz will sign a five-year contract with the New York Islanders expected to be worth at least $4 million a year.

After leading the Capitals to their first Stanley Cup, Trotz’s contract extended two years and he was given a $300k bonus on top of his $1.5 million salary. Trotz asked for a five-year, $25 million extension to be paid as one of the top coaches in the league.
Instead he will see a bump in pay by at least $2.2 million from the Islanders.
Congratulations, Coach.
