Alex Ovechkin is going to auction off the Gillette razors he used to shave his playoff beard. The proceeds will benefit Special Hockey.

MCLEAN, VA – JUNE 13: World Champion hockey star Alex Ovechkin bids farewell to his “playoff beard” in favor of a clean-shaven look thanks to the Gillette Fusion ProShield Razor during an official Gillette Shave event on June 13, 2018 in Mclean, Virginia. Only Alex Ovechkin can turn a simple shave into a viral marketing event benefitting his favorite charity.

Wednesday morning, the Capitals captain finally shaved his gargantuan playoff beard after winning the Stanley Cup for the very first time his career. In partnership with Gillette, Ovechkin allowed cameras into his Northern Virginia home to capture his jarring transformation back into a professional-looking human.

“Obviously, this has been an unbelievable time for me and thanks to my old friends at Gillette I can now take a great shave before the summer and we come back next year to try to do it again!!” Ovechkin said in a release. Ovechkin previously partnered with Gillette from 2010 to 2014.

Here are the before and after shots of Ovi’s face.

Ovechkin shaved his colossal, historic man fuzz using three different Gillette Fusion ProShield razors. Ovi will be auctioning off two of those razors and the proceeds will benefit the American Special Hockey Association. Each razor has a custom design on the handle. One features Ovechkin and his dog Blake posing together while the other is of Ovi holding a milestone puck. Ovechkin is partnering with Fanatics for the auction (FanaticsAuctions.com), and the listings should be up sometime later next week.

Ovechkin’s fondness for Special Hockey is well documented. In October 2014, the Conn Smythe winner first fell in love with the organization after being asked to go on a sushi date by one of its players, 10-year-old Ann Schaab of the Washington Ice Dogs. During the 2015 All-Star Weekend, Ovechkin lobbied for a free car from Honda and eventually got one, later donating the automobile to the group. Ovechkin continues to give away tickets to every home game to Special Hockey players via his Ovechkin’s Crazy Eights charity. He also holds a private skate for league players every season.

The Gillette Fusion ProShield razors which Ovechkin used to shave with, are currently available at Gillette On Demand. Gillette recently launched the option to personalize a Fusion Proshield razor with a design or photo so you can have a razor that is uniquely yours.
