Alex Ovechkin’s hot lap before Game Five

The Washington Capitals are 3-0 on the road since the team’s captain, Alex Ovechkin, kicked off the team’s morning skate with a hot lap around the ice.

Welp, this morning that tradition, which is now a full-bore superstition, continued.

At 11:35 AM on the dot, Ovechkin jumped out onto the ice and went into overdrive skating around the Amalie Arena rink. Ovi’s teammates banged their sticks on the ice and roared in encouragement.

Ovechkin first did the lap before Game Six of their second-round series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Later that night, Ovechkin assisted on Evgeny Kuznetsov’s overtime game-winning goal which sent the Caps to the Eastern Conference Final for the first time in the Ovechkin Era.

The hot lap is now just one tiiiiiny part of Ovechkin’s superstitious day which includes moving stools, eating heavy Italian food, and whatever this is with TJ Oshie.
