Capitals head coach Barry Trotz called Jake Guentzel’s third period bodycheck on John Carlson a “headshot” and an “unsuspecting, high hit.”
The NHL’s Department of Player Safety did not agree.
Guentzel, according to the Washington Post’s Isabelle Khurshudyan, will not have a hearing. His hit was deemed cleaned.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but Guentzel won’t have a hearing for his hit on Carlson, which Trotz took exception to. It was considered a full-body hit.

Guentzel leads the NHL in goals (10) and points (21) in the postseason. He’s never been suspended by the NHL before.
Game Six is Monday at 7 PM in Pittsburgh. The Capitals can eliminate the Penguins with a victory.
