In late November 2017, Gina Carlson announced via Instagram that she and John Carlson were expecting their second child in the spring.
Ahead of Game Five of the Second Round on Saturday, Washington Capitals head coach Barry Trotz announced that the Gina gave birth to a baby boy last night.
“He’s grown,” Trotz said, reminiscing about days gone by in response to a question about Carlson’s play.
Then he dropped the big news.
“Congratulations to John and Gina!” Trotz added.
The Capitals said Gina and their unnamed newborn baby were to be doing well.
“They’re just calling him Junior right now,” Trotz said, beaming as he spoke.
Gina Carlson posted the first picture of her “newest & tiniest soulmate” to her Instagram.
My ☀️ arrived yesterday. My newest & tiniest soulmate💓

Gina opened up about the family’s difficult journey to having their second child in December of last year. Prior to her current pregnancy, and the birth of her son, Gina suffered two miscarriages, as well as an ectopic pregnancy.
Everyone at RMNB could not be more thrilled to hear that Gina and the baby are doing well, and we wish nothing but the best for Carlson family.
