Tom Wilson has some explaining to do.
Wednesday morning, the NHL announced that the Capitals forward will have a hearing with the Department of Player Safety for his check on Pittsburgh’s Zach Aston-Reese during last night’s Game Three.
The hit, which bloodied Anton-Reese, has also knocked the forward out of the playoffs with a concussion and a broken jaw.
Washington’s Tom Wilson will have a hearing today for an illegal check to the head on Pittsburgh’s Zach Aston-Reese.

While it was clear that his head was hit, the topic of debate was whether the principal point of contact was to Aston-Reese’s head or shoulder. Pittsburgh Penguins coach Mike Sullivan challenged the Department of Player Safety after to the game to “do something”. Looks like they will, but to the extent of what, if any discipline will be doled out is still up in the air.
