Monday was an off day for the Capitals, but not for radio voice John Walton.
Walton flew to Newark and did the play-by-play of Game Three between the New Jersey Devils and Tampa Bay Lightning. The game was broadcast by NBC Sports and shown on national TV (CNBC). Darren Pang served as an analyst.
The game was Walton’s first NHL playoff game since 2014, when Walton called a game between the Stars and Ducks. The popular radio voice also did play-by-play for women’s hockey games at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
With a raucous crowd at Prudential Center, the Devils won 5-2. Taylor Hall had a goal and two assists. The Devils narrowed the Lightning’s series lead to 2-1.
The game marked the first home postseason date for the New Jersey Devils since Game Five of 2012 Stanley Cup Final.
Great job, John!
Gonna be a busy but fun few days for me. #CapsJackets Game 2 tonight at 7:30, then heading to Newark to call Tampa Bay/New Jersey with @Panger40 on @CNBC Monday before Game 3 in Columbus Tuesday.
