Dave Gunnarsson, the Swedish airbrush artist, has created a new mask for Capitals goaltender Philipp Grubauer. The design was posted to Gunnarsson’s Instagram on Sunday.
The 10th iteration of the “Desolation of Grubi” series, Gunnarsson’s latest design incorporates the colors of and takes inspiration from the American flag. It also features the Weagle and stars that appear to be “stitched” onto the mask.
Gunnarsson shared the concept behind the mask, which was created with input from Grubauer, with the posted image on Instagram.
Today we have the pleasure to unleash the latest mask and also 🔟th chapter in Philipp Grubauer’s mask art saga called ”The Desolation Of Grubi”…🎨👊🏻 Yes it is the 🔟th mask in this unique mask series which Philipp and I have created together🎨. I love the challenge to create and paint a line of Storyteller📕 masks that connects to each other, mask after mask➡️. This is a design built on contrasts and inspired by the US flag🇺🇸 since it is for the capital city of USA⭐️… Thanks Grubi🙏🏻! I am so proud to be your personal mask artist! @philippgrubauer31 @capitals @nhl @daveart #DaveArtTheStoryteller #nhl #DaveArtTheCradleOfCreativity
Gunnarsson has created several designs for Grubauer before this latest bucket. He has also done designs for Hershey goaltender Pheonix Copley, and Braden Holtby.
