Because the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Colorado Avalanche last night, the Washington Capitals had to wait another day to clinch a playoff spot.
Tonight, they have several new options to get in.
The Capitals will clinch a playoff berth today if any of the following occurs:
1. Florida loses to Ottawa in any fashion or if Florida defeats Ottawa in a shootout
2. New Jersey loses to Pittsburgh in any fashion
