Even though Joe Thornton is hurt and not currently playing for the San Jose Sharks, a Blues fan still came to the Blues-Sharks game Tuesday night equipped with what I can only describe as the takedown of the year.
Seated behind the Sharks bench, the fan held up a piece of paper with a simple message: JOE IS OLD.
Way harsh, dude.
The Sharks pointed out that today the world is celebrating National Joe Day, which makes the takedown even more savage.

Later, NBC Sports California “fixed” the sign, photoshopping the note to say JOE IS THE BEST.

While Jumbo recovers mentally and emotionally from this burn, he is also nursing an injured right knee. Thornton has not played since injuring his knee January 23 during a game against the Winnipeg Jets and undergoing surgery a few days later. Thornton isn’t sure he will be able to return this season, but is trying to remain hopeful.
“I hope so, just taking it day by day right now,” Thornton said to The Athletic’s Kevin Kurz.
