Friday night, Evgeny Kuznetsov took a slash to the left arm and was unable to finish the Capitals game against the New York Islanders. There were fears the injury could be significant, but the Caps announced on Saturday that Kuznetsov was “day-to-day” following the upper-body scare.
Sunday, Barry Trotz announced even more good news during his pregame press conference with the media.

When asked if he thought Kuznetsov avoided a longterm injury, Trotz said, “Yeah, I like the terminology of day-to-day better than month-to-month or week-to-week. That’s terrific news, but we’ll see where he is tomorrow. But the terminology of that sounds good to me.
Trotz was then pressed on if he expected Kuzy to be back before the playoffs.
“Oh yeah,” Trotz said. “I do. For sure.”
Kuznetsov will, however, miss Sunday evening’s Caps-Flyers game. According to the Capitals’ Mike Vogel, Travis Boyd will apparently center the team’s first line with Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson.
