Turns out, adding Susan Sarandon as a hockey commentator is a bad idea

Some days, I like to think to myself that I can do anything if I put my mind to it! I could be a doctor, a lawyer, a bar owner, or any other dream I might have. Last night, it was solidified that I am also qualified enough to be an NBCSN “Inside the Glass” corresponder with Pierre McGuire because after the trash they pulled during the game, anyone can wear that second headset.

For some ungodly reason, NBCSN announced that as part of their coverage of the Penguins-Rangers “Wednesday Night Rivalry” game, actress and Rangers fan Susan Sarandon would be joining Pierre as a commentator. According to Sam Flood, the executive producer and president of production for NBC and NBCSN, the reasoning for this decision was because, “We are always looking to grow the game of hockey, and this approach provides us another opportunity to broaden the reach of this great sport.” I need Mr. Flood to call me and explain exactly who he was trying to reach. Women? Casual fans? Who?

I tuned in because I enjoy hockey, even featuring high profiled teams that I hate. I did not tune in to listen to Sarandon just say “ohhhh” or “ahhh” every once in a while when the Rangers did something of value. Be glad if you didn’t turn it on, because despite the really good game (Rangers came back and won in OT), the announcing was unbearable.

Along with Sarandon’s oooh-ing and ahhhh-ing, she answered some weird questions from the broadcast team that included Pierre McGuire asking her to compare Kevin Costner and Mark Messier. Her response was that they were both “sexy” and “leaders.”

I’m just glad that I wasn’t alone in thinking this was one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen during a hockey game. Twitter was angry too.

If you really want a video summarizing exactly what this sounded like, here you go:
