The Caps made a strong rush into the offensive zone but got caught behind Freddy Andersen’s net. No worries: from there Tom Wilson made a pass north of the goal line to find Ovechkin, uncovered by the Leafs, can you believe that.
Ovi did not waste the chance.
Here’s a glove-kiss and celebration, outdoor-style.
Hey, that makes 598 goals. Two to go before 600, and there’s a heluva lot of hockey left to play.

The tally also marked Ovechkin’s league-leading 40th goal of the season. He now has nine-career 40-goal seasons, which puts him with some pretty impressive company.
Ovi’s goal follows a power-play marker from Evgeny Kuznetsov.

Kuzy got the feed at the goal mouth from Nick Backstrom to record his 20th goal of the season, tying his career high from 2015-16. (He had 19 goals last season.)
