On Saturday evening, the Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR) took first place in the men’s hockey competition with a 4-3 overtime win, giving Russia its first gold medal in hockey since 1992. The team defeated Germany, which took silver after a huge upset over the nine-time Canadian champions in the semifinals of the tournament.
Alex Ovechkin, who is still clearly displeased with the NHL’s decision to not allow its athletes to compete in PyeongChang, congratulated his fellow countrymen on their win with a picture on Instgram.

Per RMNB’s Graham Dumas, Ovi’s caption reads “Guys!!! We rooted and pulled [for you]!! You beauties! You brought victory and the gold to the country!!!! Well done!!!!🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺 #PutinTeam”
Dmitry Orlov also congratulated the Russians on their victory using his Instagram story.

Also per Graham Dumas, Orlov’s congratulations roughly translate to “You guys, you beauties! Congratulations!”
After their win, the Russians, competing under a neutral flag as a result of a state-sponsored doping scandal, defied the International Olympic Committee’s rules and sang the Russian national anthem during the medal ceremony.
