The tally came off a set breakout play. From behind the Caps net, Dmitry Orlov threw a pass to the red line, which Brett Conolly bunted forward to Kuznetsov.
Kuzy, carrying the puck into the zone with speed, weaved around two Sabres defensemen and sped into the crease on a semi-breakaway.
He beat Robin Lehner from almost no angle to score.
Kuznetsov celly’d with a huge fist pump along the boards.
And one more replay because this is quite satisfying.
Kuznetsov is now on a 22-goal pace to finish the season, which would better his career high of 20 during the 2015-16 season.
According to the Caps PR, Kuznetsov’s goal was one of the quickest to start a game this season.
Evgeny Kuznetsov opens the scoring for the Capitals 50 seconds into the game. The fastest goal to start a game for the Caps this season was scored by Jay Beagle on Dec. 8 versus the New York Rangers (14 seconds).
