The Caps’ February 27th game against the Ottawa Senators is the team’s first annual Pride Night, honoring the LGBTQA+ community. The night is one of many games celebrating Hockey is For Everyone month.
During warmups, the team will be using sticks wrapped in rainbow-colored Pride Tape. The sticks, along with signed rainbow pucks, will be auctioned off, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the You Can Play Project. A limited number of unsigned pucks and You Can Play pins are also available for purchase.
Bid on the items via Handbid here.
Caps goalie Braden Holtby, who was named the team’s Hockey is For Everyone ambassador, has been an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQA+ community, and has participated in the Capital Pride Parade in 2016 and 2017.
If you want a roll of Pride Tape for your own gear, you can purchase it here.
More from the Caps:
In conjunction with the National Hockey League’s Hockey is for Everyone Month, the Washington Capitals and Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation are hosting an auction benefiting You Can Play.
The Capitals Feb. 27 game versus the Ottawa Senators will honor the LGBTQ community, and the auction features select autographed player-used sticks wrapped in rainbow-color ‘Pride Tape’ and signed pucks featuring a rainbow Caps logo on them. There will also be a limited number of unsigned pucks and You Can Play pins for sale through the Handbid app. Click here to bid.
One hundred percent of proceeds will benefit You Can Play, an organization dedicated to ensuring equality, respect and safety for all athletes, coaches and fans, without regard to sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
The auction is currently open on Handbid and closes at the end of the second intermission on Feb. 27.
