Jakub Vrana will be a healthy scratch against the Winnipeg Jets

The Washington Capitals played one of its worst single periods of hockey Sunday against Detroit, and now Barry Trotz is making some changes ahead of the team’s game against Winnipeg.

Forward prospect Jakub Vrana will be the lone forward healthy scratch on Tuesday night against the Jets. After sparking a comeback against the Red Wings, Brett Connolly has been promoted to the second line while Alex Chiasson will get a sweater and skate on the team’s third line.

Here are the full lines from The Washington Post’s Isabelle Khurshudyan.

Against the Red Wings on Sunday, Vrana skated on the second line with Evgeny Kuznetsov and TJ Oshie. The trio finished as the only Capitals line above 50 percent in shot attempts. At even strength, Vrana finished with the second highest shot-attempt percentage (64.7) among his teammates, being on the ice for eleven Caps attempts and six by the Wings.

Vrana was on the ice with the first line for Anthony Mantha’s second period goal, covering Nick Jensen’s dump-in attempt, but did not appear to contribute to the goal.

Vrana is in the midst of cold streak offensively, putting up only four points — all assists — in his last 19 games.

After practice, Trotz explained his decision.

This will mark Vrana’s fourth missed game this season due to coach’s decision.
