Alex Ovechkin scored his league-leading 27th goal of the season Sunday against the St. Louis Blues. After the game, NBC Sports Washington’s Tarik El-Bashir asked Ovechkin to explain his team’s recent success on the power play. The team scored two power-play goals (Brett Connolly and Ovechkin) in the first time in a while.
Ovechkin’s response back to the press was unintentionally very funny.

“I think we just simplified our game,” Ovechkin said. “Oshie win the face-off, put the puck up. I had a chance to shit, I shit. I took a shit…”
It was at this moment Ovechkin realized his wrong. He was confusing the word “shot” with “shit.” He stuck out his tongue and laughed.
“Whatever,” Ovechkin said, playing it off. “Shoot, shit.”
Ovi re-found his footing and then finished the question. (I would have run away and hid in a locker in embarrassment.)
“But again, it’s working,” Ovechkin said. “I think we have to continue playing like that and it’ll give us a result.”
Ovechkin speaks two languages, English and Russian, fluently. It’s amazing how articulate he manages to be and how rare these vocabulary mixups have been throughout his career.
